    ATV's for my sons

OK guys, I got the ex-wifes ok to buy quads for my two older sons! She sued me about 6 years ago over the dirt bikes so after 3 years of asking she has agreed. Im trying to decide what to buy them?

One son is 10 1/2 years old, 5' tall and 80 lbs. the other is 13 1/2, 5' 6" and about 100 lbs.

I am fully aware of the dangers of kids on full size machines (my buddy bought his 7 yr old daughter a Griz 450 for her birthday).

They have ridden a fair amount (PoPo 330 trail boss) mainly and a little on the PoPo 700.

My delima is this, I plan to buy them 4X4's but am trying to keep the weight down but find machines that they will not out grow in a few years.

I'm currently looking at the following machines, any input is appreciated.

    1) Griz 450

    2) PoPo Sportsman 400 (I like the mid size chassis but its as heavy as the griz)

    3) Prarie 360 4X4

    4) Rancher 420 or Foreman

    Thanks guys??

Grizz 450 hands down. Put a set of SRA (Solid rear axle) wheels on it and the offset will make it as stable as one could ever expect a Quad to be. (currently have my 12 yr old on one. he has had it since 9). It is such a decent quad I use it as my back up bike and will be riding it tomorow because I don't feel like taking the Rhino.

Stay away from the Prairie. They are top heavy. (I owned one)

No infor on the Po PO but they are typically heavy.

I agree, I would go with the Grizz. You guys should come to the memorial day ride at rabbit creek, kilgore.

    David,

I appreciate the input and that is the way I will go. I'm watching craigs list & e-bay for a Kodiak or Grizz 450.

We looked for your camp site at the Nats. but couldnt find yall, got there Thursday about 3:00 and looked for Lolloby lookout with out any luck. We found a decent spot with little traffic to the right of the hill going to the powerline. Go there and unloaded just in time for the powerline to be shut down.

I still hope to meet up with you guys at one of these rides before long.

    Mike,

Thats cool. I understand about Nats. That place is crazy and you pretty much have to either be led in or know where you are going.

As to the Kodiaks, good luck on that. I was quoted $5100 each for 08's at Allmans in Lousiana a couple of months back. That was out of state tax exempt. From what I hear they stopped working deals that way.

As to buying used I am so leary of it because of the way people treat them. If you can find some that are from ranchers etc... they are usually pretty good.

One trick to see if its been heavily muuded is to pull the pull start cord out. If it is clean and goes in and out smoothly, then it most likely has not been mudded  and or sunk.
