I bought it used and it has been in and out of the shop do to idling issue which was the wire harness for the EFI. So any how found a little mud pit and wanted to try it out and the new tires (swamp-lites). After playing there was another Popo 500 efi '05 playing in the mud too. Well we took off to the trails and the next thing I look down and see HOT flashing so I stopped. The guy with the 500 stopped with me, I told him what was going on and asked about the fan running (his was not even running). The fan was running, I looked at the bottle and it was all the way to the top (like over filled, which is weird since the coolant is in the middle at pre run). So I thought well my radiator might be clogged, so I unscrewed the bottom of the screen and looked up and only the bottom part was clogged but 70% was clean. The guy told me that he has had his clogged up and never ran hot. So I let it cool down and then would drive till I see HOT. Turn off and wait to cool down. So on and so until I got back to the trailer. When I got home the coolant level was in the norm.

So the question is could it be the thermostat since the bottle was full to the top or the water pump or the cap? The times I have rode my ATV it seems the fan runs a lot, my average ride speed is 5-20mph since my daughter is following on her ATV. This is the first time I have hit the mud so and it has now made me think twice.

Thanks for any info,

After mud bogging last weekend my teens cleaned up the bike using high pressure wash at the coin wash. Later that nite after being parked for hours we noticed the cooling fan for the engine was intermitantly starting and stopping without the key in the ignition. I put the kill switch in the off position but in the am. the battery was dead. We removed the battey recharged it and when put back on the bike the "engine hot" warning is displayed on the instument panel with the speedometer needle flashing red and the cooling fan still going on and off. I think this must be a sensor problem from moisture but am unsure how to proceed .
            any feedback would help

It started this winter when I was plowing snow. In order to get it to engage into 4x4 I have to push the red button (on the handlebar) off and on repeatedly then it will go in after about 15 tries. It was still happening this summer so I took it to the ATV shop and they couldnt get it to "not go into 4x4" . They told me that the problem was probably because the front differential was overfilled and assumed it was fixed. I test drove it day I got it back by going up a real steep hill. I pushed the 4x4 button to engage the front end and it didnt engage as usual. :Naughty: Can anyone tell me what to tell the ATV mechanics when I take it back to them so that they can get right to the problem??:

Polaris EFI 800 Exhaust heat

The heat from the exhaust pipe(s) has slightly melted the plastic on the right side, where the removable plastic engine cover goes. Now, on this newer one, the oil type is not listed on the new bottle. Polaris does NOT own an oil company. They have it bottled for them by some oil co. Then, they market it. What company and type of oil do they use?

Also, when I got mine, it did not have a tool kit with it. I really believe in keeping a tool kit with it. Is there a list of the normal tools stocked with this? So I can buy them. They would be the normally needed tools for a trailside repair.

Had 417 miles on it.

The previous owner (apparently) drove it for a little while with the back bumper loose. Then, tried to tighten it, and stripped the threads on BOTH lower bolts.

So, they took a cutting torch, and cut a hole in the side of the frame, and used a LARGER bolt and nut. Then, covered the hole with windshield glue. This was to access the back side of the frame, and place a wrench on the nut.

I know NOTHING about this, and try to remove the back bumper, because it is bent, probably by getting rear ended. I wish to straighten it.

So, I finally remove the rear rack, and the rear plastic fender, and the rear tool box, and discover that there was a moron ahead of me!

So, Now I want to go to the local muffler shop, and have a nut welded on the inside of the frame, where the rear bumper mounts.

My question is, is this metal HEAT TREATED, (Polaris Frame) and will it weaken the frame?

I plan to have a gas torch, used on it. (common tool of the muffler shop..)

Another thing, is that the tool box had been sealed up with windshield glue, and styrofoam placed inside to make it into a "built in cooler". I don't really car e to use it like this. So, I remove all the styro, and tape it up with GORILLA tape. Did it used to have a seal in it?

Should I silicone it all up? I will be carrying a tow rope, and some basic tools in there.

Ya know, I bugs me when someone before me messes something up... and does not fix it right, and I don't want to continue it!

Ah! nothing like OPT (Other People's Troubles!)

Got a questions for all you Polaris Owners out their.
I am thinking of picking up the 2006 Polaris 800 EFI with the
Hunter Package.
How does this machine perform? I am currently stationed
at Ft. Meade, most of my hunting is done up in the mountains.
How will this machine handle on inclines?
How much power and speed can I expect?
How is the riding comfort level?
Does the wider stance help with off Camber roll-overs?
We have lots of flat trails that we race around on...
Most of the guys are running 400-500cc 4X4's and I
want to issue a Texas Sized Butt-Whuppin!
Feel free to email me direct.

This includes the strut, casing, bearing and ball joint and the going price is $50 on ebay. This Friday (08/18) they are supposed to be listing that and other stuff. I picked up a set instead of replacing bearings on mine. Definitely worth the $$$.
