Scott is right... this petition is still alive and well, and I will be sure to mention it during the upcoming meeting with TPWD on Jan 26th (regarding the opening a proposed ATV park in Ozona, TX). I think its important for the TPWD to know that Texas citizens are STILL very frustrated with the loss of 1 Million acres of riding area as the result of SB155 and the fact that the state has not created a single new ATV riding area since SB155 took effect 2 years ago. What an outrage!! PS - The proposed Ozona park may not be very convenient for most Houston ATV riders, but its certainly a good start to get a new ATV park funded by the state! TMTC promises to find a spot relatively near the greater Houston area after they get the Ozona property created. So we all need to support the Ozona project 100% even if we don't think we can ride there very often. Happy trails...:)

I agree with you that it is important to support all texas atv parks, but I am still up in the air about TMTC. From an outsiders point of view, they have really not done that good of a job with Ozona. They are a year or two behind the schedule they originally published, and they communication they have with most people in Texas is non-existent. If you don't go to their site, and specifically look for some info, you won't ever hear about it. I do appreciate that they have gotten such a massive park bought, but it will be a real headache for atv and mx riders that don't live in west texas. Heck, it is 4 hours from austin. If you are in a 4x4, that is not bad, as you just drive over. But when you have to trailer everything up and drive it, it is a chore.

I hope it opens this coming year. I know it sounds bad, but I am not available to help build out the park, but I might be able to make an annual trip out there. It will be hard, especially with BC trail park so close to Austin.

Re: RE : Go Sign The Petition!!

    Rocket,

My memory is a bit cloudy, but I want to say it was just over a year ago that I sent all of the paper petition signatures that I had collected and gave them all to Carol Smith (she is very active in Pro-ATV efforts at the State and local lobbying efforts in addition to being a part of TMTC and other off-road organizations). Between me and Bill Eaton, I think we collected about 1500 paper petition signatures, but I could be wrong on that number (don't recall now).  So you can add that number to the sigs you see online for the grand total.

I'm not sure if Carol ever got the paper signatures from Bill Eaton (aka Ding-a-ling).   Anyway, I sent those signed paper petitions to Carol with the hope that she could use them (plus the sigs on the online petition) to help show our elected officials and TPWD officials the great interest from the community at large in getting more ATV riding areas in Texas.

    Eltex,

I have to agree with you about Ozona taking a long time to be completed.  Along with dozens of other folks (including several members of TMTC), I attended the TPWD commissioner's hearing in Jan 2006 where they voted to fund the Ozona park.  That was almost 3 years ago and as far as I'm aware, the park is still not up and running yet...and the trails that have been developed thus far are mostly made for Jeeps (not ATVs).  I don't know why the delay is, but I'm guessing part of the problem may be the location...I suspect more people would volunteer to help develop the park if it was closer/more convenient to a larger population of ATVers.  But that is a catch 22...as its WAY TOO EXPENSIVE to buy large property that is located relatively close to Houston, Austin, etc.

    Happy trails...:)

Anyone know how the green belt is doing?  I see a lot less people enjoying Spring Creek in canoes than on ATVs.

The petition has 4160 signatures plus the ones that were signed in person.....is there any way to send this to our Texas Government?
