Rocket,
My memory is a bit cloudy, but I want to say it was just over a year ago that I sent all of the paper petition signatures that I had collected and gave them all to Carol Smith (she is very active in Pro-ATV efforts at the State and local lobbying efforts in addition to being a part of TMTC and other off-road organizations). Between me and Bill Eaton, I think we collected about 1500 paper petition signatures, but I could be wrong on that number (don't recall now). So you can add that number to the sigs you see online for the grand total.
I'm not sure if Carol ever got the paper signatures from Bill Eaton (aka Ding-a-ling). Anyway, I sent those signed paper petitions to Carol with the hope that she could use them (plus the sigs on the online petition) to help show our elected officials and TPWD officials the great interest from the community at large in getting more ATV riding areas in Texas.
Eltex,
I have to agree with you about Ozona taking a long time to be completed. Along with dozens of other folks (including several members of TMTC), I attended the TPWD commissioner's hearing in Jan 2006 where they voted to fund the Ozona park. That was almost 3 years ago and as far as I'm aware, the park is still not up and running yet...and the trails that have been developed thus far are mostly made for Jeeps (not ATVs). I don't know why the delay is, but I'm guessing part of the problem may be the location...I suspect more people would volunteer to help develop the park if it was closer/more convenient to a larger population of ATVers. But that is a catch 22...as its WAY TOO EXPENSIVE to buy large property that is located relatively close to Houston, Austin, etc.
Happy trails...:)
