Brute Force 650 or King Quad 450

I cant make a up my mind on this guys so any comments or opinions you have for me would be great.

I'm looking to buy an new ATV and under 7,000. It would be mostly for me but my wife will ride it too. I'm not compleatly new to ATVin but Ive never owned one. I live in Alaska right now and I'll be useing it to trail ride mostly, but also will be doing some stream crossing mud riding and with out a doubt taking it out in the snow. I have narowed my choice's to 2 ATV's.

First lets talk about the 07 Suzuki King Quad 450.(454cc) MSRP 6,499.00

THE GOODS= IRS (Independent Rear Suspention)The handling on these things are second to none from what I hear and read.
Fuel Injection (would be great for these Alaska mountains)
Flip switch for the locking front diff (just makes sense to me)

THE BADS= I dont think its going to be powerful enough for me or, I think I will out grow it quickly and want to get somthing bigger.
The stearing is supposedly twitchy and nervous feeling.
The front rack is under sized compared to other ATV's. (I dont really care about that last one)

Next is the 08 Kawasaki Brute Force 650.(633cc) MSRP 6,599.00

THE GOODS= Good sized Great sounding 90-degree V-TWIN
I really like the looks of the brute force
Looks like there might be a little more room on the seat for riding two.

THE BADS= Solid rear axle.(I dont think the handling will come close to the King quad)
Carburetion (just cant compare with fuel injection for many reasons)
Im not sure I am totally sold on the lever pull on the left handel bar for the locking front diff

Again, I could be wrong on some of this stuff guys. Ive never even sat on either of these QUADS so what the hell do I know. This is all stuff I read online. Anything you could tell me about either of these two ATV's would be very helpful. Thanks ZAK

I love IRS for any situation! Have you not considered a Yamaha Grizzly? They are about the same price, has IRS, and push button 4x4 and another button for diff lock.

I have a Brute SRA and I love it right up until I get in the mud.  If you are doing a lot of trail riding, then it is a great bang for the buck and has plenty of power.  The ride is a bit rougher than an IRS bike, but IMO it handles better than my PoPo.  I also don't think having carbs is that big of a deal, you learn to adjust them.  The locker lever is not that big of a deal, and you can get a Pen-lock for it and don't even have to hold it down.

It really comes down to your style of riding.  If you ride in a lot of places where clearance is an issue, you might want to go IRS.  Like was said, the new Griz is a good ATV.  There is nothing wrong either with the 650i and 750 Brutes as well.

I agree with thebigfitz about the handling of the SRA. Too me, it handles better than the IRS quads I've ridden. Granted I haven't ridden them all, but I feel like there is a weird body roll feel to the IRS quads. It might be I'm just not used to it, or it might just be 'cause I ride mine like a sport quad, LOL. On the other hand, IRS is a softer ride. But I don't think the Brute has a bad ride.

You're right about the seat length of the Brutes. That was one of the selling points for me. You can ride doubles easily and it gives you plenty of room to change your riding position. A backrest makes it even better.

I also looked at the Grizz. I was always a fan of Yammahammer. But I couldn't get one for anywhere close to what I paid for the Brute. I got mine for $5800. I also actually liked the lever-pull diff lock better too. It's not something I use a lot with my type of riding and not having it locked in all the time saves axles.

Between the two you asked about, I'd go Brute for sure for the shear fact that it's a lot more bike. But if you really need the extra ground clearance, find an IRS quad. Otherwise, I know you will be pleased with the 650 SRA., it's a very capable bike if you don't high center. I don't know about the need for EFI up there or snow riding. We don't get much snow down here.

I got a 750I for myself and love it. No regrets at all. Also bought a '08 KingQuad 450AXI for the woman.. It's plenty of bike for what she likes to do.. Mostly trail ride. It's a little short on the power for me, but just right for her. I got it for her because of all the pros you listed.
