The biggest thing is to get the one that you are most comfortable on because it's your dollars that are being spent.  Also don't forget about Suzuki, KTM, and Can AM.

Yeah Honda was def. a top choice. Um to answer your question probably some xc and a little moto x too, and just your basic Fast trail riding to practice on.

Hondas are great bikes. I own a mint 86" 250r myself.

However, depending on the racing you do, it will cost some money to get it ready for xc or mx.  Suspension is where the dollars are to be spent.  +2 a-arms and some quality shocks are a must.  Also better rear axle, rear shock is neccessary.  This is the same for the Yamaha, Kawa.  The motor shoudl do nicely with just an exhaust and jetting  Again this is if you are going to race seriously .. Once you practice and move up to B or A, probably more motorwork will be needed.

I have no personal experience with the new canam or KTM, but they are pricey in my neighborhood.  If your completly new to the scene you might want to try the suzuki lt450r.  It's wider stance offers more stability in corners, and its throttle response is  great.  You can almost buy it and take it to the track on the amatuer-intermediate level.  Just my .02

I would have to say what type of riding are you doing? I will assume your a weekend warrior and not planning on racing. Simplicity....Availabilty of parts. Aftermarket parts. Ease of service and availability of service.

Take all those into consideration. IMO, Honda is the way to go. Easy to work on bike and lots of stuff available for it to make it handle better, go fast, and look really cool! I can say that from expierience too. We got one of the first Honda 450`r out and alot of the aftermarket stuff for it too. The 450r is almost perfected with the rear linkage setups and shock availability. Unfortunatly, quads are not like dirt bikes and do need lots of tweaking in the suspension department iof your racing it. Good luck with your choice. You really couldnt go wrong with any of the other brands though. Just remember the whole package.

    Re: Best 450r???

SmileWell right now I guess you could consider me that, but once i get a good quad i will probably enter some races. After a little bit of training of course lol I  know now I probably wouldn't even be competative at my level currently.
